Navara is a medicinal rice which is believed to have originated in Kerala. The rice, its grain, bran, powder and roots are used in Ayurveda to treat various ailments. Bran is the outer coating of the rice grains which is often removed during its processing. It contains several nutrients like protein, fat, and dietary fiber along with substantial amount of minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Bran has been used for improving various ailments including diabetes, high cholesterol, indigestion, heart disorders and others. Navara bran mixed with jaggery has been advised for treating mouth ulcers as well as peptic ulcers.
Bran can be used in many ways. It can be used while making bread, cookies, biscuits, etc.
